MARVEL- This was a Marvel Pack that coincided with some big film releases in the MCU. We really elevated the material executions, including designing metal logo pins, a heat pressed 3-layer foam upper with and iridescent finish for the Harden 3 (far left) and a re-designed sidewall for Candace Parker’s “Captain Marvel” shoe.
MARVEL RETRO- This is another take on Marvel that I did, using retro models and going for a more classic comic book interpretation of the characters.
Crazy Explosive- This was another shoe we turned around in a weekend, for a big adidas Basketball event being held in Vegas. They wanted a special color way that screamed Vegas to sell exclusively at the event. The knit pattern was actually inspired by high-volume carpets in casinos and turned out looking great. I created the outsole graphic based on playing cards, and we even managed to electroplate the shank, to give it a little extra bling.
Crazy Light Boost- This was Andrew Wiggins Rookie of the Year shoe. Another crash project where the whole team pulled it all together and delivered a great product. This was the first time I sublimated on PrimeKnit; it actually turned out really well and we wound up further developing the process for future seasons.
Adidas X Vet Tix- This was one of my favorite projects, not specifically for the shoe, but because I came across the Vet Tix organization organically, reached out to them, and succeeded in getting adidas to begin an official partnership with them, that gives back to Veterans and their families. It was a very gratifying experience to lead a large corporation to team up with a non-profit that is doing important work.
USAB- I’ve been making the Olympic Basketball shoes for years. The USAB rules for color are pretty strict, but I thought I’d include some examples here.
Reflective Pack- This was a fun pack, because reflectivity was just really starting to hit big in the performance footwear category. We created this pack using reflective films, TPU treatments, and a new (at the time) reflective mesh upper.
Florist City- This was a pack we did for John Wall, who was playing in D.C., and Damian Lillard who was playing in Portland, focusing on the floral lineages of both cities. It was a small launch for boutique footwear, and sold out in less than a day.
Sauce Pack- This was a very over-the-top pack that we made for MacDonald’s in China. Each Athlete in the pack was associated with a “special Sauce”. Needless to say, it was a fairly polarizing pack, but sometimes that is the brief you need to hit. MacDonald’s was very happy, and the pack did well.
PRIDE Pack- Every year, adidas participates in Pride in both the NBA and the WNBA. This was the last pride pack that I worked on. Using a number of different color techniques for both the uppers and the outsoles, we created a lot of really vibrant finishes to enable our players to celebrate the moment.
